CVE-2026-4437 is a DNS response parsing vulnerability in GNU C Library (glibc) versions 2.34 through 2.43. It affects applications calling gethostbyaddr or gethostbyaddr_r with glibc's DNS backend enabled through the Name Service Switch configuration. The internal getanswer_ptr function can incorrectly advance from the answer section into a subsequent DNS response section while continuing to interpret records as answers. When the answer section contains only skipped records and the subsequent section contains a semantically invalid T_PTR record, a crafted response can cause an incorrect hostname to be returned, violating the DNS specification.

A DNS response-handling vulnerability in GNU C Library (glibc) versions 2.34 through 2.43. When the DNS backend is configured, a crafted DNS server response can cause gethostbyaddr or gethostbyaddr_r to accept a non-answer section as a valid answer. The reference rates it CVSS v3 7.5, with high availability impact, and reports available exploits. The prescribed fix is upgrading glibc and related packages to 2.41-12+deb13u2+e2 or later.
A vulnerability covered by a TuxCare/Rocky Linux 9.6 local security-check plugin. The supplied metadata rates it Moderate and indicates publicly available exploits and an available patch.
A vulnerability covered by an Alma Linux 9.6 security advisory, rated Moderate by the vendor. The supplied CVSS v2 vector indicates network-accessible exploitation with low complexity and no authentication, affecting integrity and availability.
A GNU C Library flaw in gethostbyaddr and gethostbyaddr_r involving incorrect handling of DNS responses; fixed in glibc 2.44.
