Apache Zeppelin contains an LDAP filter injection vulnerability in the LdapRealm component. When constructing LDAP search filters, LdapRealm used RFC 4514 distinguished-name escaping rather than RFC 4515 filter escaping. As a result, special LDAP filter characters were not escaped correctly in filter context, allowing attacker-controlled input to alter the structure or semantics of LDAP search filters. The issue is described as an incomplete fix for CVE-2024-31867. Affected versions are Apache Zeppelin 0.11.1, 0.11.2, and 0.12.0; the issue is fixed in 0.12.1.
