CVE-2026-44931 is a local denial-of-service vulnerability in malcontent 0.14.0 affecting the malcontent-timerd component. The issue was introduced with the new D-Bus method RecordUsage, which is accessible to arbitrary local users. By repeatedly invoking this method with many distinct application identifiers, an attacker can cause malcontent-timerd to create unbounded usage records in its persistent store under /var/lib/malcontent-timerd. The flaw results from insufficient restriction and lack of limits on resource creation, allowing attacker-controlled growth of on-disk state. The vulnerable behavior enables gradual exhaustion of disk space on the affected system.
