CVE-2026-45130 affects Vim versions before 9.2.0450. In read_compound(), an attacker-controlled length in a spell file's compound section causes a 32-bit signed integer overflow during buffer-size calculation when UTF-8 encoding is active. The resulting undersized heap allocation is followed by out-of-bounds writes, corrupting adjacent memory. A planted malicious spell file can be loaded when a user enables spell checking for its language or opens a text file with a triggering modeline. The practical impact is a Vim process crash; arbitrary code execution has been suggested as a possibility under additional heap-grooming conditions but is not established.

A heap buffer overflow in Vim versions before 9.2.0450. An attacker-controlled length in a crafted spell file causes a signed integer multiplication overflow, resulting in an undersized allocation and out-of-bounds heap writes. A text file modeline can trigger loading through the spelllang option if the malicious spell file has already been planted on the runtimepath. The advisory rates the vulnerability CVSS v3 5.5, with user interaction required and high availability impact.
A moderate-severity, locally exploitable vulnerability referenced by an Alma Linux 9.2 local security check. The CVSS v3 vector indicates no privileges are required but user interaction is required, with impact limited to availability (CVSS 3.0: 5.5).
A moderate-severity, locally exploitable availability vulnerability referenced by an AlmaLinux 9.6 local-security-check plugin. The provided CVSS v3 vector indicates local attack vector, no privileges required, user interaction required, and high impact to availability only.
A vulnerability addressed by Huawei EulerOS SA-2026-3679 in EulerOS Vim packages; the technical flaw type is not stated.
