A memory-safety vulnerability in the Linux kernel mac80211 Wi-Fi subsystem occurs when connection preparation fails for Multi-Link Operation (MLO) connections. In the affected logic, the virtual interface is reset from MLD to non-MLD state, but a station object associated with the removed link can be incorrectly retained. Because the vif transition recreates its debugfs state, this stale station reference can later be accessed or freed again, resulting in a use-after-free or double-free condition in debugfs when debugfs is enabled. The upstream fix removes the existing station during failed connection preparation so that no stale station remains attached to a removed vif link.
