CVE-2026-46155 is an out-of-bounds read vulnerability in the Linux kernel SMB client implementation, specifically in smb2_compound_op(). The flaw occurs when the client processes a malicious SMB server response that is truncated but advertises a large OutputBufferLength and terminates the extended attribute list early. In this condition, check_wsl_eas() can return success without verifying that the full OutputBufferLength is contained within the received I/O vector length. smb2_compound_op() subsequently uses OutputBufferLength as the memcpy length when copying response data, which can cause a read past the end of the rsp_iov allocation. This can expose adjacent kernel heap memory to the vulnerable code path.
