Heap overflow in Redis Lua cjson library in Apache Kvrocks

IdentifiersCVE-2026-46752CWE-122

CVE-2026-46752 is a memory corruption vulnerability in Apache Kvrocks affecting versions 2.0.4 through 2.15.0. The issue is described in the advisory as a Redis Lua heap overflow in the bundled or integrated cjson library used by Kvrocks' Lua scripting functionality. Supporting context also references a stack buffer overflow in Lua bit.tohex(), but the primary vendor description identifies the flaw as a heap overflow in cjson. Successful exploitation would involve triggering the vulnerable Lua-related code path with crafted input, causing out-of-bounds memory writes on the heap and resulting in process memory corruption.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation can cause heap memory corruption in the Kvrocks process. Based on the advisory context, this may lead to denial of service through process crash or instability, and may also create conditions for arbitrary code execution. The provided context further indicates high confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact and remote exploitability, so compromise could potentially extend beyond service disruption to full process compromise.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

If immediate upgrade is not possible, reduce exposure of Kvrocks instances to untrusted network clients, restrict or disable access to Redis Lua scripting features where operationally feasible, and apply compensating network controls such as ACLs, segmentation, and trusted-client-only access until version 2.16.0 can be deployed. The authoritative remediation is to upgrade.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Upgrade Apache Kvrocks to version 2.16.0 or later. Version 2.16.0 is identified by the vendor as containing the fix for CVE-2026-46752.
