CVE-2026-47686 is a sandbox-escape vulnerability in vm2, a Node.js sandbox library, affecting versions earlier than 3.11.6. The handleException() function sanitizes SuppressedError.error, SuppressedError.suppressed, and AggregateError.errors but fails to sanitize Error.cause. When an embedder-exposed host function throws an error whose cause references a powerful host object, sandboxed code can obtain that object and use it to execute arbitrary commands on the host. Version 3.11.6 fixes the vulnerability.

A critical sandbox escape vulnerability in the vm2 Node.js sandbox library before version 3.11.6. Failure to sanitize Error.cause can expose privileged host objects when an embedder-exposed host function throws an error containing such an object, enabling sandboxed code to execute arbitrary host commands. The reported CVSS v3 base score is 9.9.
A sandbox escape vulnerability in vm2 for Node.js caused by improper sanitization of Error.cause in handleException(), allowing arbitrary host command execution from sandboxed code.
A critical vm2 Node.js sandbox escape vulnerability. Improper sanitization of Error.cause permits sandboxed code to access a powerful host object, such as process, and execute arbitrary commands on the host. It affects vm2 versions before 3.11.6.
