CVE-2026-48043 is a resource-management flaw in Netty's HTTP/2 codec, affecting netty-codec-http2 before versions 4.1.135.Final and 4.2.15.Final. The vulnerability is in the DelegatingDecompressorFrameListener class, which performs per-stream HTTP/2 content decompression by creating an EmbeddedChannel for codecs such as gzip, deflate, or zstd and forwarding decompressed chunks to a wrapped listener. During this process, each decompressed chunk is represented as a pooled ByteBuf whose lifetime must be explicitly released by the tail handler that assumes ownership. If a remote peer sends HTTP/2 frames that cause the flow controller to throw during processing, the expected release path is bypassed and the ByteBuf reference count is leaked. Repeated triggering of this condition can accumulate unreleased pooled buffers and exhaust JVM memory.
