CVE-2026-48086 is a critical improper privilege management vulnerability in OpenReception appointment booking software affecting versions prior to 1.0.2. The flaw resides in the role-update handler, which accepts the GLOBAL_ADMIN role value during staff role updates initiated by a TENANT_ADMIN without enforcing a policy check that restricts assignment of that role to existing GLOBAL_ADMIN users. As a result, authorization is effectively determined by accepted input values rather than by server-side privilege validation. A tenant administrator can use a single role-update request to promote their own account, or another staff account within the same tenant, to platform-wide GLOBAL_ADMIN. After re-authentication, the issued JWT reflects the elevated role, enabling access beyond the original tenant scope. In hosted multi-tenant deployments, this results in cross-tenant administrative compromise. In self-hosted deployments, it still permits unauthorized elevation beyond intended tenant-admin capabilities. The issue is fixed in version 1.0.2.
