CVE-2026-48748 is a memory exhaustion vulnerability in Netty's HTTP/3 codec affecting versions prior to 4.2.15.Final. The flaw is in QPACK header processing, specifically in io.netty.handler.codec.http3.QpackDecoder#shouldWaitForDynamicTableUpdates, when handling HTTP/3 header blocks that reference dynamic table entries the peer has not yet received. Under vulnerable configurations, the decoder can create an effectively unbounded number of blocked streams because resource allocation is not properly limited or throttled. This can accumulate state until the process exhausts heap memory and terminates with an out-of-memory condition. The issue is classified as allocation of resources without limits or throttling.
