CVE-2026-49471 is a high-severity remote code execution vulnerability affecting Serena prior to version 1.5.2. Serena’s built-in web dashboard exposes a local Flask API on a fixed, predictable port and, in affected versions, that API lacks authentication, CSRF protection, and HTTP Host header validation. These weaknesses allow a DNS rebinding attack in which a victim’s browser, after visiting a malicious webpage, can be induced to send same-origin requests to the local Serena dashboard service. Through the exposed API, an attacker can write arbitrary content into Serena’s persistent memory store. Because Serena autonomously reads and acts on that memory, the injected content can influence agent behavior. When chained with Serena’s execute_shell_command functionality, which uses shell=True, the memory poisoning can be escalated into arbitrary operating system command execution on the host running Serena. The issue is fixed in Serena version 1.5.2.
