CVE-2026-50020 is an HTTP request smuggling vulnerability in Netty's HTTP codec module affecting versions prior to 4.1.135.Final and 4.2.15.Final. The flaw resides in HttpObjectDecoder, specifically in logic that skips leading bytes before parsing the first HTTP request-line. Instead of only tolerating empty CRLF lines as permitted by RFC 9112, the decoder silently consumes arbitrary ISO control characters in the 0x00-0x1F range and 0x7F, along with whitespace. This overly permissive preprocessing can cause Netty to interpret the start of a request differently from an upstream reverse proxy, load balancer, or web application firewall that does not ignore the same bytes. In deployments that reuse persistent backend connections, this parser discrepancy can create request-boundary confusion and enable HTTP desynchronization or request smuggling against applications using netty-codec-http.
