CVE-2026-50130 is a local privilege escalation vulnerability in Pi-hole affecting versions 6.0 through 6.4.2. An attacker who already has code execution as the unprivileged pihole user can replace Pi-hole's logrotate configuration under /etc/pihole. During startup or service preparation, the replacement file is reassigned to root ownership by the Pi-hole prestart workflow and is later processed by a scheduled Pi-hole maintenance cron task running as root. Because the malicious logrotate configuration can contain a firstaction shell directive, the attacker can cause arbitrary shell commands to be executed with UID 0. The flaw arises from unsafe handling of a file writable or replaceable by a lower-privileged context that is subsequently trusted and executed by a privileged root-owned workflow.
