CVE-2026-50248 is a vulnerability in NLnet Labs Unbound affecting versions 1.7.0 through 1.25.1. In auth and RPZ zone configurations, Unbound can treat a configured primary hostname as a valid zone transfer endpoint even when that hostname resolves to BOGUS A or AAAA data. Because the resolver incorrectly accepts this invalidly validated address information as a possible XFR primary, an attacker who can spoof the hostname’s address resolution can cause Unbound to connect to an attacker-controlled zone transfer source. The issue specifically affects the logic used to select XFR primaries for auth or response-policy zones and results from improper acceptance of untrusted DNS resolution results for the configured primary hostname.
