CVE-2026-50574 is a vulnerability in yt-dlp affecting versions prior to 2026.06.09 when aria2c is configured as an external downloader for fragmented manifest formats such as HLS and DASH. The flaw arises because yt-dlp passes insufficiently sanitized attacker-controlled input into an aria2c input file. yt-dlp extracts fragment URLs from manifests and writes them to an aria2c input file used with the -i option, but aria2c input files also support option-bearing configuration lines. This allows crafted manifest data or metadata to inject unintended aria2c directives. Documented attack paths include DASH fragment URLs containing HTML-escaped newline sequences that are converted into real newlines during processing, and malicious metadata fields incorporated into output templates when newline sanitization is disabled with --no-windows-filename. Successful exploitation enables arbitrary file write through injected aria2c options. On Windows, this can lead to immediate arbitrary code execution; on non-Windows platforms, it can lead to code execution on a subsequent yt-dlp invocation. The issue was fixed in yt-dlp 2026.06.09 by removing support for downloading fragmented manifest formats with aria2c.
