A vulnerability was found in CMS Made Simple up to 2.2.22. This impacts the function _copyFilesToFolder in the library modules/UserGuide/lib/class.UserGuideImporterExporter.php of the component UserGuide Module XML Import. The manipulation results in path traversal. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploit has been made public and could be used. This issue has been reported early to the project. They confirmed, that "this has already been discovered and fixed for the next release."

Repository contains a small, focused exploit for CVE-2026-5203 against CMS Made Simple <= 2.2.22. Structure is minimal: a README describing the vulnerability and usage, plus a single Python script (`exploit.py`) implementing the attack. The exploit is not part of a larger framework. Core capability: the script logs into the CMS admin interface using supplied administrator credentials, retrieves CSRF tokens if present, and abuses the UserGuide module XML import feature to upload attacker-controlled XML. The XML embeds a path-traversal filename and base64-encoded PHP content, enabling arbitrary file write outside the intended directory. By default, it attempts to write `shell.php` into `/var/www/html/` via `../../../../../../var/www/html/shell.php`. After upload, the script tries to reach the resulting PHP web shell over HTTP, first at `/<filename>`, then at fallback paths such as `/uploads/<filename>`, `/tmp/<filename>`, and under the admin URL. It verifies successful code execution by sending `cmd=id` and checking for `uid=` in the response. If successful, it enters an interactive loop that repeatedly sends commands through the `cmd` parameter. The payload is a basic PHP command web shell using `shell_exec($_REQUEST['cmd'])`. This makes the exploit operational rather than a mere proof of concept, but payload customization is limited and hardcoded. Overall, the repository’s purpose is authenticated remote code execution through path traversal plus arbitrary file upload in the CMS Made Simple UserGuide import workflow.
