CVE-2026-52859 is an out-of-bounds memory-access vulnerability in Vim terminal snapshot handling. Before Vim 9.2.0565, update_snapshot() in src/terminal.c copies visible terminal cells to the scrollback buffer by iterating a cell's fixed six-element chars[] array until a NUL terminator is found. A valid cell containing a base character and five combining marks has no NUL terminator. The function consequently reads beyond chars[] and appends excess values to a buffer sized for six characters, causing an out-of-bounds write. Malicious output displayed in a Vim :terminal window can trigger the condition and crash Vim.
