CVE-2026-52863 is a memory corruption vulnerability in NLnet Labs Unbound affecting versions 1.25.0 through 1.25.1. The flaw was introduced by a fix intended to make the respip and dns64 modules work together. In the affected code path, a subquery receives a shallow copy of the active view name rather than an independently owned copy. When Unbound is operating under pressure and its jostle logic drops slow queries, the parent query that owns the original view name can be removed while the subquery still references that memory. Subsequent use of the stale reference can corrupt memory. The issue is tied to interactions between response rewriting or policy modules and subquery-capable modules in view-aware configurations, and primarily manifests as instability rather than reliable code execution.
