CVE-2026-53221 is an incorrect tunnel-selection vulnerability in the Linux kernel IPv6 Virtual Tunnel Interface (ip6_vti) subsystem. In vti6_tnl_lookup(), failure to find an exact tunnel match triggers fallback searches for tunnels with wildcard remote or local addresses. Different tunnel types share a hash table and can collide; the fallback loops did not verify that a candidate actually used the required wildcard address. Consequently, a packet can be matched to an unintended IPv6 VTI tunnel.
