CVE-2026-53397 is a memory-leak vulnerability in the Linux kernel NFS server (nfsd) ACL SETACL request decoders for NFSv2 and NFSv3 ACL processing. The affected decoders separately parse access and default ACL data. If decoding the access ACL succeeds, ownership of an allocated POSIX ACL is transferred to the SETACL argument structure, but decoding the subsequent default ACL fails, the access ACL is not released. Because the RPC framework skips the SETACL procedure handler after a decode failure, the former cleanup paths in that handler are unreachable. The configured release callbacks released only the file handle and not the ACL fields, leaving the allocated POSIX ACL orphaned for the lifetime of the server.
