CVE-2026-53451 is a critical unauthenticated vulnerability in Ground Station affecting versions prior to 0.4.13. The save-waterfall-snapshot Socket.IO command accepts attacker-controlled snapshotName input and passes it from backend/handlers/entities/sdr.py to backend/server/snapshots.py, where path handling with os.path.join fails to constrain writes to the intended snapshots directory. Because absolute paths and parent-directory traversal are permitted, an attacker can cause attacker-controlled base64-decoded content to be written outside the designated snapshot storage location. This arbitrary file write can be chained with the unauthenticated update-app-config operation to point log_config at a malicious YAML logging configuration, followed by restart_service. During restart, backend/common/logger.py processes that configuration through resolve_log_config_path(), yaml.safe_load(), and logging.config.dictConfig(), allowing execution of an attacker-supplied callable factory with service privileges. The same chain can also be used to induce a persistent crash loop.
