CVE-2026-53633 is a critical remote code execution vulnerability in Vitest Browser Mode affecting versions 3.0.0 through before 3.2.5, 4.0.0 through before 4.1.8, and 5.0.0-beta.0 through before 5.0.0-beta.4. The flaw arises because the Browser Mode cdp() API forwards raw Chrome DevTools Protocol commands without enforcing the intended write and execution restrictions controlled by allowWrite and allowExec. A remote client that can access exposed browser API metadata can abuse CDP functionality, including methods that enable file overwrite and script evaluation, to replace the project’s configuration and cause Vitest to execute attacker-controlled Node.js code when the configuration is reloaded. The issue is particularly relevant to Browser Mode deployments using a CDP-capable provider such as Chromium-based automation backends.
