Authorization bypass in ArcadeDB schema mutation controls

CVE-2026-54076 is an authorization flaw in ArcadeDB's arcadedb-engine schema layer. Due to an incomplete fix for CVE-2026-44221, public schema-mutating methods on schema objects such as LocalDocumentType and LocalProperty do not consistently enforce the required UPDATE_SCHEMA permission. As a result, an authenticated user or API token that is intended to have read-only access can invoke unchecked schema modification operations and alter the database schema despite lacking the documented privilege to do so. The issue affects authorization enforcement for schema-level operations rather than direct record-level read or write access.

Successful exploitation allows an authenticated low-privilege identity, including a read-only API token, to perform unauthorized schema changes. Although the flaw does not inherently grant direct access to record contents or direct modification of stored data through this vulnerability alone, unauthorized schema mutation can undermine database integrity, corrupt the interpretation and structure of stored records, disrupt applications that depend on the expected schema, and violate the intended permission model.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

If immediate patching is not possible, restrict database access so that only fully trusted users and API tokens can perform operations against environments where schema mutation is possible. Enforce schema definition and DDL actions as administrator-only within the application layer, review and minimize issuance of read-only tokens to ensure they cannot be used in workflows that expose schema mutation paths, and monitor for unexpected schema changes until the fixed version is deployed.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Upgrade arcadedb-engine to version 26.6.1 or later. The corrected release enforces checkPermissionsOnDatabase(UPDATE_SCHEMA) on public schema-mutating methods, including those exposed through LocalDocumentType and LocalProperty, restoring proper authorization checks for schema modification operations.
