CVE-2026-54411 is an observable timing discrepancy in Linux-PAM through version 1.7.2 in pam_userdb's plaintext-password comparison path. When pam_userdb is configured to perform plaintext comparison, comparison timing varies according to password length and the number of leading bytes matching the stored credential. An attacker can repeatedly submit authentication attempts and statistically measure these differences to infer the target account's plaintext password.
