CVE-2026-54693 is an authorization flaw in ZITADEL, an open source identity management platform, affecting the email and phone self-management API flows. In affected releases, the API paths handling email and phone verification in the user self-management logic did not enforce the required permission before returning verification codes. As a result, a user could request and obtain a verification code for an email address or phone number without being properly authorized to do so. This broke the intended proof-of-control step for contact verification and allowed a user to mark an email address or phone number as verified even when they did not actually control that contact method. The vulnerable logic was present in the email, phone, and human user command handling for the self-management flows.
