CVE-2026-5562 is a remote code-injection vulnerability affecting Provectus Kafka UI through version 0.7.2. The smart-filter test-execution functionality passes attacker-controlled Java-like expressions from the filterCode field to an unsafe execution mechanism in validateAccess. A proof of concept demonstrates execution of an operating-system command and returns its output in an application error response, confirming execution in the Kafka UI service context.

Small standalone Python proof-of-concept repository for CVE-2026-5562 targeting Kafka UI. The repository contains four files: a GPL license, a short README with usage instructions, a requirements.txt listing requests, and a single executable script exploit.py. The exploit script is the clear entry point and uses argparse to accept a target base URL, attacker callback IP, and optional callback port. It constructs the target endpoint by appending /api/smartfilters/testexecutions to the supplied base URL, then sends an HTTP PUT request with a JSON body containing a malicious filterCode field. That field embeds Java code which starts sh on the target and connects back to the attacker over a TCP socket, relaying input and output to form an interactive reverse shell. The script prints the target URL and payload before sending the request, disables TLS certificate verification, and raises an exception on non-success HTTP responses. This is an actual exploit rather than a detector: its purpose is remote code execution leading to a reverse shell on a vulnerable Kafka UI instance.
