CVE-2026-55708 is a low-severity privacy and configuration vulnerability in NLnet Labs Unbound affecting versions 1.6.0 through 1.25.1. When the unbound-control commands view_local_data or view_local_datas are used on an already configured named view that initially has no local data, Unbound creates a local zones tree for that view but fails to populate it with the resolver’s default-protected zones. These omitted defaults include locally handled namespaces such as RFC 1918 reverse zones, AS112 zones, .onion, and .localhost. As a result, the affected view is initialized in an insecure state that does not preserve the expected local-policy protections for those names.
