CVE-2026-56412 is a use-after-free vulnerability in libexpat before 2.8.2. The doCdataSection processing path does not account for XML_TOK_DATA_CHARS when tracking handler call depth during policy-violation handling. Consequently, certain calls made from XML handlers can re-enter or alter parser state without the required lifetime protection, permitting an object to be freed while it remains in use. The flaw is an incomplete remediation of CVE-2026-50219.
