CVE-2026-61740 is a critical authentication bypass vulnerability in HKUDS LightRAG affecting versions prior to 1.5.4. The flaw occurs when LightRAG is deployed with LIGHTRAG_API_KEY configured while AUTH_ACCOUNTS is left unset. In that state, the authentication logic falls back to a hardcoded default token secret in the API authentication component, and public authentication-related endpoints can mint guest JWTs. The combined authentication dependency then accepts a valid guest token before enforcing the configured API key requirement. As a result, remote unauthenticated attackers can bypass X-API-Key protection and invoke endpoints intended to be protected by combined authentication, including document management, graph mutation, and query functionality.
