CVE-2026-63387 is an off-by-one stack buffer overflow in Libevent's evdns DNS-response formatting logic. In affected releases prior to 2.1.13 and 2.2.2-alpha, dnsname_to_labels can process a name-bearing DNS record at the boundary of the 64 KB stack buffer allocated by evdns_server_request_format_response. Its final-label bounds check allows the label position plus label length plus terminator to equal the buffer length, after which it writes a terminating NUL byte one byte beyond the buffer. PTR, CNAME, MX, NS, and SOA records can carry the triggering name data.
