CVE-2026-6531 is an infinite-loop denial-of-service vulnerability in Wireshark’s SANE (Scanner Access Now Easy) protocol dissector. When dissecting SANE_NET_CONTROL_OPTION request or response messages, the dissector’s dissect_control_option_value() logic accepts attacker-controlled array-length and value-type fields. An unrecognized value type can cause the loop body to perform no meaningful parsing while the attacker-controlled length remains the loop bound, resulting in up to approximately 2^31 iterations. Wireshark versions 4.6.0 through 4.6.4 and 4.4.0 through 4.4.14 are affected.
