CVE-2026-6533 is a denial-of-service vulnerability in Wireshark's dissection engine affecting the LZ77 decompression logic. The flaw is caused by improperly controlled sequential memory allocation during processing of malformed LZ77-compressed data, and has been described as an SMB2 LZ77 decompression bomb condition. Affected versions include Wireshark 4.6.0 through 4.6.4 and 4.4.9 through 4.4.14. When Wireshark dissects specially crafted compressed packet data, the LZ77 decompressor can crash, and the condition may also drive excessive CPU consumption.
