CVE-2026-68398 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel PPP-over-L2TP receive path. PPPoL2TP receive processing executes under an RCU read-side critical section and invokes PPP input handling using an internal PPP channel object without acquiring a reference to that separately allocated object. During socket teardown, the channel could be freed directly without an RCU grace period when it was bound but neither attached to a PPP unit nor bridged. A concurrent receive operation could therefore dereference channel memory after it had been freed. The fix defers channel reclamation through an RCU callback, ensuring that in-flight receive-side processing completes before the channel memory is released.
