CVE-2026-68579 is a heap-based buffer overflow in FreeRDP before 3.30.0, affecting the Windows clipboard client implementation in CliprdrStream_Read within client/Windows/wf_cliprdr.c. During clipboard file transfer handling, an OLE paste consumer such as explorer.exe invokes IStream::Read with a fixed-size destination buffer of cb bytes. The vulnerable code requests file contents from the remote RDP server and copies the returned data into the caller-provided buffer using the server-supplied length req_fsize rather than the actual buffer size cb. If a malicious or compromised RDP server returns an oversized CB_FILECONTENTS_RESPONSE, the client performs an out-of-bounds write of attacker-controlled data into the heap buffer owned by the paste consumer. The flaw is triggered when a user pastes server-offered clipboard file contents and constitutes a remotely reachable memory corruption issue in the client context.
