CVE-2026-69249 is an uncontrolled resource-consumption vulnerability in python-cryptography versions 42.0.0 through 48.0.0. When validating an invalid X.509 certificate chain containing duplicate self-signed certificates, the recursive build_chain_inner path-building logic can revisit the same candidate certificates without deduplication, producing exponential validation work. Maximum chain-depth limits ensure termination but do not prevent substantial processing delays. Version 49.0.0 corrects the issue.
