CVE-2026-6951 is a remote code execution vulnerability in the simple-git npm package affecting versions prior to 3.36.0. The issue is caused by an incomplete fix for CVE-2022-25912 in simple-git’s argument filtering before invoking the underlying git binary. The earlier protection blocked Git’s short-form configuration flag (-c) but failed to block the equivalent long-form flag (--config). As a result, if untrusted input is passed into simple-git options or customArgs, an attacker can supply malicious Git configuration overrides such as --config protocol.ext.allow=always and pair them with an ext:: clone source. Git then interprets the injected configuration and ext:: transport in a way that can execute arbitrary shell commands with the privileges of the Node.js process running simple-git.

A remote code execution vulnerability in simple-git before version 3.36.0 caused by an incomplete fix for a prior issue, allowing attackers to abuse the --config form and ext:: clone source when untrusted input reaches the options argument.
A critical remote code execution vulnerability in the simple-git npm package that allows attackers to bypass prior argument filtering protections by using the --config flag instead of -c to inject dangerous git configuration and achieve arbitrary command execution via the ext:: protocol.
