CVE-2026-71312 is an OS command injection vulnerability in rclone versions before 1.75.0. The SFTP backend's PowerShell path-quoting logic in backend/sftp/sftp.go interpolates remote paths into server-side hashing commands. Its quoteOrEscapeShellPath function escaped only the ASCII apostrophe, despite PowerShell also recognizing U+2018, U+2019, U+201A, and U+201B as single-quoted-string delimiters. An attacker-controlled SFTP filename containing one of these characters can terminate the intended path literal and inject additional PowerShell statements when rclone invokes server-side hashing.

A command injection vulnerability in rclone's SFTP backend where specially crafted filenames using PowerShell smart quotes can break out of the intended quoted path and trigger server-side command execution during hashing operations.
A command injection vulnerability in rclone's SFTP backend PowerShell path sanitization, where Unicode smart quotes can terminate a quoted PowerShell string and allow arbitrary command execution on a remote Windows host.
