CVE-2026-71491 is an algorithmic-complexity vulnerability in the Python sqlparse library before version 0.6.0. The group_comments function repeatedly rescans the remaining token stream when processing comment-only SQL statements, producing quadratic O(n²) CPU consumption. The vulnerable processing is reachable through sqlparse.parse() and sqlparse.format(sql, strip_comments=True). It occurs before the MAX_GROUPING_TOKENS guard, so that token limit does not protect against this denial-of-service condition. Version 0.6.0 fixes the behavior by stopping comment grouping when no non-comment terminator is found.
