CVE-2026-72859 is an incorrect authorization vulnerability in Budibase Server affecting versions 3.39.4 before 3.40.0. The flaw was introduced by a regression in the S3 attachment upload endpoint, where the route authorization requirement was changed from a BUILDER permission check to a TABLE/WRITE permission check. Because BASIC users possess TABLE/WRITE permission by default, a low-privileged authenticated user can send POST requests to the attachments endpoint and obtain S3 PutObject presigned URLs that should have been restricted to higher-privileged users. The endpoint also accepts attacker-controlled bucket values in the request body, allowing generation of presigned upload URLs for arbitrary S3 buckets reachable through the application's configured IAM credentials. This enables unauthorized use of the application's cloud storage access for file upload operations.
