CVE-2026-7422 is an insufficient input validation flaw in FreeRTOS-Plus-TCP affecting versions before V4.2.6 and V4.4.1. In the IPv4 and IPv6 receive paths, the stack's loopback detection logic treats packets whose Ethernet source MAC address matches one of the device's own registered endpoints as locally originated traffic. Because that path skips normal inbound validation, an adjacent network attacker can spoof the source MAC to match a local endpoint and cause the stack to bypass checksum verification and minimum-size checks. The issue is therefore a validation bypass in packet processing caused by trusting a spoofable link-layer identifier during loopback handling.
