CVE-2026-74684 is a denial-of-service vulnerability in the Linux kernel TAP driver's XDP transmit path, specifically tap_get_user_xdp(). The function parsed a virtio-net header through tun_vnet_hdr_to_skb() before associating the socket buffer with its TAP network device. For an XDP buffer containing a GSO virtio-net header with a zero protocol value, parsing can invoke dev_parse_header_protocol(), which dereferences skb->dev while it is NULL. The defect was an incomplete application of the ordering fix previously applied to tap_get_user().
