CVE-2026-76890 is a use-after-return flaw in Wireshark's sharkd backend. sharkd_session_process_iograph() stores iograph state in a stack-allocated array and registers entries as global tap listeners. When registration of a later graph fails, such as because of an invalid client-supplied filter or field, the error path returns without unregistering listeners created for earlier valid graphs. The retained listeners reference the expired stack frame. A subsequent retap invokes sharkd_iograph_packet() using the dangling state, causing invalid reads and potentially allocator operations on corrupted pointer data. The flaw causes a reliable sharkd crash and memory corruption. Published affected releases include Wireshark 4.6.0 through 4.6.7 and 4.4.0 through 4.4.18; technical reporting indicates the defect was introduced in 3.6.0 and may affect additional releases. tshark is not affected.
