CVE-2026-76919 is an uninitialized-pointer flaw in Wireshark's generated ESS protocol dissector affecting versions 4.6.0 through 4.6.7 and 4.4.0 through 4.4.18. When decoding malformed BER BIT STRING values in ESS security-category attributes, a decoding failure path can leave the attribute buffer pointer uninitialized. ESS attribute-flag post-processing subsequently uses that indeterminate pointer as though it referenced a valid buffer, causing invalid native memory access. The affected attribute variants include restrictive, permissive, and free-form ESS security-category fields.
