CVE-2026-78689 is a heap-based out-of-bounds write in the NGINX JavaScript (njs) XML module namespace-prefix-list parser, reachable through xml.exclusiveC14n(). A crafted XML namespace prefix list writes past a heap allocation. Both the njs and QuickJS (qjs) engines are affected. Under the default njs engine, heap corruption can affect adjacent objects and crash an NGINX worker. Under qjs, affected calls also leak the supplied prefix list, causing worker memory consumption to increase across requests. The nginxinc/nginx-saml reference implementation processes the InclusiveNamespaces PrefixList value from untrusted SAML messages before signature verification, making crafted unsigned SAML protocol messages an exposed attack path.
