CVE-2026-81928 is an uncontrolled-recursion denial-of-service vulnerability in Perl Net::DNS versions before 1.57. The sig_data routine signs a DNS message by re-encoding it and, in affected versions, removes TSIG records only from the additional section. A TSIG record decoded into the answer or authority section remains present and is processed again during re-encoding, recursively re-entering sig_data without a termination condition. Although the decoder identifies an improperly positioned TSIG as misplaced or corrupt, it handles that condition as a warning and retains the record rather than dropping the message as required by RFC 8945 section 5.2.
