CVE-2026-84568 is a path traversal vulnerability in macOS autofs network-directory handling. Insufficient validation of directory-supplied paths can allow an attacker controlling a network directory server to cause arbitrary code execution in the root security context. Apple addressed the issue with improved path validation in macOS Golden Gate 27, macOS Sequoia 15.8, and macOS Tahoe 26.7.

This six-file repository contains reverse-engineering notes plus one executable proof-of-concept script, misleadingly named poc.c despite containing Bash. The script starts/configures local NFS and OpenLDAP services on an attacker host, builds an LDIF directory tree containing auto_master and auto_evil maps, and serves an entry whose mount source is 127.0.0.1:/tmp/nfsroot. A vulnerable macOS automountd that trusts the attacker LDAP automap source accepts that local-host value and attempts to mount its own NFS export at an automount-controlled destination. Documentation describes the macOS 26.7/27 patch as explicit rejection of localhost, the machine hostname/.local name, and local interface addresses. The PoC is a network-delivered trust-boundary demonstration, not an RCE exploit. It also documents a separate, path-resolution-blocked fstype traversal into /sbin/mount_%s, but does not exploit it. Repository documentation refers to poc.sh, whereas the supplied implementation is named poc.c; this naming/layout discrepancy is notable but the shebang makes it runnable as a shell script.
