CVE-2026-8643 is a path traversal vulnerability in pip's handling of console_scripts and gui_scripts entry points during wheel installation. pip treats entry-point names as paths rather than file names and fails to validate that resolved absolute paths remain within the intended installation directory. A malicious wheel can therefore cause generated entry-point scripts to be installed outside that directory, allowing unauthorized file writes or arbitrary file overwrite within the permissions of the pip process.
