alsa-lib through version 1.2.16.1 contains a stack-based buffer overflow in __snd_ctl_ascii_elem_id_parse(). While parsing a control-element identifier's name= field, the function writes one byte past a 64-byte stack buffer when the supplied value is 64 characters or longer. The overflow can corrupt adjacent stack memory and cause the calling process to terminate.

This two-file standalone proof-of-concept repository contains a README and reproducer.c. The C program does not communicate over a network, invoke an external binary, or link against alsa-lib; instead, it reproduces the relevant parser loops from alsa-lib's src/control/ctlparse.c. The vulnerable quoted and unquoted name= paths accept 64 input characters into char buf[64], then write a terminating NUL through a pointer positioned at buf[64], producing a one-byte stack out-of-bounds write. The program exercises the 64-byte trigger, a safe 63-byte boundary case, a short control input, and a corrected implementation using sizeof(buf)-1. Its practical purpose is vulnerability reproduction and sanitizer-assisted validation, not exploitation or remote compromise.

A vulnerability requiring local access and low privileges, with no user interaction required. The CVSS vectors indicate low integrity and availability impacts, no confidentiality impact, and no scope change. The content does not identify the affected product or underlying flaw.
A one-byte stack buffer overflow in alsa-lib through version 1.2.16.1, within __snd_ctl_ascii_elem_id_parse(). A long control-element identifier supplied via saved state files or command-line arguments can overwrite adjacent stack memory and crash the calling process.
A vulnerability tracked as CVE-2026-90781 affecting Debian Linux 12.0, 13.0, and 14.0. The supplied CVSS v3 vector indicates a local, low-complexity issue requiring low privileges, with low integrity and availability impact and no confidentiality impact.
