ParaShells is a local privilege-escalation vulnerability in Parallels Desktop for Mac, confirmed in version 26.4.0 build 57513 on Apple Silicon systems. A root-privileged Parallels dispatcher service accepts connections from unprivileged local clients through a world-writable Unix-domain socket and relies on peer credentials without validating that the client is Parallels-signed. An authenticated local client can invoke appliance installation with a crafted parent-directory value. The service constructs a tar extraction command as a string and passes it through Qt QProcess::splitCommand; an embedded quotation mark terminates the intended argument and permits injection of additional tar arguments. The injected tar compression-program option causes macOS tar to launch an attacker-selected program as root.
